Daniel Morley
Daniel was born in 1980 and at the very young age of seven wanted to play golf at every chance he could get.
He also thought he should start entering golf tournaments. As a junior (up until age 18), Daniel won over seventy tournaments. He represented Nova Scotia on the provincial team six times. At the age of twelve, he played in Provincials and actually made the cut. From then on he made the team each and every year.
In 1994, as a member of the Midget Team, Daniel went on the the Atlantics and achieved Individual Low Gross for Nova Scotia. The next year, he was second in the Atlantics. The highlight of the year was a win at United Commercial Travellers of America Tournament for the Atlantics, which gave him the opportunity to play in Disney World. Daniel ended the southern Tournament fifth out of eighty golfers from all over North America.
In 1996, he finished Provincials second in the juvenile division, and went on the the provincial qualifier where he made the four-man travelling team as the youngest member. Also in this year, he had the top individual score at the high school provincial tournament and was named Valley Zone player of the year.
In 1997, while still in the juvenile division, Daniel had his first win at the junior provincials. He started playing Men’s Invitationals this year at age sixteen, and won several events. He had the top individual score at the high school provincial tournament. The highlight of his career was a win at a mixed tournament with his mother. In 1998 he was on the future Links National Order of Merit, 13th in the country, and attended a week-long camp bringing home a prize for the junior showing the most sportsmanship and golfing ability. Daniel also won Provincials for the second year in a row.
Daniel also decided at a young age that he would have to do well in school in order to attend a university where he could golf all year and be able to go on a scholarship. He graduated from Bridgetown Regional High School with Honours.
Daniel left Nova Scotia to go to Winthrop University in South Carolina, joining their golfing squad, on a university scholarship. He received a four-year scholarship from the Canadian Golf Federation. In 1999 Daniel won the Nova Scotia Provincial title for the third consecutive year. This is a provincial record and still stands to this day. The four times that he attended the Junior Canadian he was always in the top 30.
Daniel graduated from the University of Winthrop with his Business Degree with Honours. He stayed there and worked as an assistant professional at Waterford Golf and Country Club. He continued studying here and went to Florida to pass the testing and became a member of the Professional Golfers of America (PGA). He also taught golfing in the South Carolina school system.
Daniel married in 2006 and moved to California because of his work. He is Head Golf Instructor and General Manager at the Fremont Park Golf Course in Fremont, California. Daniel is teaching lessions to children and adults of all ages and abilities. In June, he took an eleven year old girl and an eight year old boy to the United States Kids Golf Tournament. The girl placed second in her division and the boy won the USK State of California Championship for his age division. Way to go, teacher!
