Joe Tidd
A man devoted to his family, Joe Tidd is also a man who has tirelessly given endless hours volunteering his knowledge and his talent to his community, to the benefit of all ages.
For 41 years (from 1948 to 2009) Joe played an invaluable role in the successful operation of the Bridgetown Curling Club. For many years he headed the ice committee, ensuring the smooth operation of the ice plant, the heart of the ice making process. He was determined that the playing surface would always be the best possible, whether for club play or for a major event. Joe’s dedication to detail has been admired and respected by several generations of Curlers.
In addition to the above accomplishments Joe always made sure that the Club facilities were ready to receive members and guests.
Although officially “retired” from these responsibilities, Joe continues to share his knowledge and to lend a hand whenever called upon. In recognition of his dedication, Joe has been awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Bridgetown Curling Club.
As if that level of service was not enough, the closing of the Curling Club each year would turn Joe’s attention and talents to the Bridgetown Lawn Bowling and Quoits Club.
In another remarkable record of service, Joe has been a member of the club for 47 years. (1963 to 2010) During that time span he served continuously as the Maintenance and Greens Chairman, ensuring that a top notch playing surface was available for any and all levels of play. As well, Joe served 13 consecutive years as Club President.
Once again, in recognition of his positive contributions, Joe was awarded a Lifetime Membership. It must also be noted that Joe was a talented Lawn Bowler in his own right. In 1982, Joe was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame as a member of the 1973 and 1975 Canadian Lawn Bowls Fours National Championship Teams.
Joe’s five decades of service to two sports, his willingness to always lend a hand, his positive and steady demeanor and the level of excellence he achieved in preparing ice surfaces and bowling greens has ensured his place in the sporting heritage of Bridgetown as a Builder.
